Global design future workshop
What may a sustainable future look like for social care?
Today, we did workshop with Francesco Mazzarella. The first activity was the “What may a sustainable future look like for your sector?” Our team’s sector was “Social Care” which is related to our collaborative unit project. Our current project is about the adult’s social care in the present so that it has some limitations such as technology, adults’ behaviour, and financial problems. But, in this workshop, we can think about the futures.
“What do you think about sustainable future social care?”
This is our team’s brainstorming map. I thought about the Smart home, AI assistant and VR social care classes. In the smart home, adults can contact with communities, GP, carers, families, and friends. Also, there will be an AI assistant to assist them always. If someone needs some activities, they can enter the VR yoga class and meet their friends and teacher of that class.
Most of our ideas were based on data and high-technologies. And we considered adult’s behaviour in the future. They might be more independent and they will not need social cares. There will be a more preventative approach in their life.
“Will social care still exist in the future?”
We called it the social program and not care because we worked to prevent independence with the help of technology, interest-based focus, connecting homes and community: Collaborative technology. For example, people can do exercise together in VR world.
If our economies became hyper-local, there will be a division between the rich and the poor. There will be the smart home/community called ‘Collaborative social living’.
If our consumption patterns enabled a sharing economy, there will be the travel social program without currency but trade of exploring, of course, with the electric plane. Trade of exploration will resolve technologic isolation. In other words, it is kind of exchange people within different cultures.
The collaborative technology social program
- Let people connect visually
- Target stakeholders
- Local authority (users with mental health issues)
- Tech hubs
- IT Companies
- The Community comitee
- Hobby centre, Leisure centre, Yoga and gym centre
- Travel agencies
- The stakeholders’ needs
- Not lonely, social and happy
- Connecting different cultures
- New platform
- Sustainable environment
- Lack of diversity
- Globalisation : no difference between nations and cultures
- Lost of local heritages
- Over-dependence on technology
- Mental health
- Combine interest & age group together
- Improving mental health
- Engaging activities
In the future, we assumed that physical health of human will be in a same high level, it means, kind of superhuman. That’s because medical techniques are becoming more sophisticated all the time and the percentage of disabled people and patients is decreasing as well. After that, the future will be face mental illness of people.
Our idea will improve mental health through traveling. Creating the new platform that combines people based on their common interest and hobbies and connecting people from the different background and shares their experiences. However, this new social program should overcome some weakness such as globalisation and over-dependence on technology.
It was really good activity so that we can think about future of the social care without considering current limitations. Due to this workshop, we had an opportunity to think about another way of social care and it’s future and it was really exciting!!
